PIKE PERCH
The shore-gathering pike is the prospecting tool on sand and mud, used to probe the substrate looking for buried shellfish or worms. More precise than the rake (you target a visible burrow rather than blind-scraping), it's the tool of choice for "spot" clam fishing where you spot the shellfish imprint on the sand surface.
You will find short hand pikes (40 to 60 cm, for foot prospecting), long-handle pikes (1 to 1.50 m, for upright work), tempered-tip pikes (improved abrasion resistance on sand + stones), oblique-tip pikes (to slip under the shellfish and lift it), and combined pikes (pike + hook on the same tool).
