The jig head is the central component of soft-lure rigging: it provides the weight needed for the swim, the working depth, and hook positioning. A good jig head is chosen by the desired weight, the lead shape (which affects swim), the hook size (matched to the soft lure) and the steel quality (sharpness and strength).
You will find round heads (versatile, good water-tracking), football heads (excellent over rocky bottoms, anti-snag), bullet heads (linear swim on cast-and-retrieve), underspin heads (with blade for vibratory effect), plus specialised Texas and drop-shot heads.
