The assist hook is the hook dedicated to vertical jigging: tied to a bundle of braid fibres or dyneema cord, it sits on the side of the jig (not at the tail like a treble), which improves hook-up ratio and reduces break-offs on lift strikes. It's the indispensable accessory of all saltwater jig fishing.
You will find single assists (one hook per cord) for slim jigs and madai fishing, double assists (two hooks per cord) for aggressive pelagics and shore jigging, twin assists (one cord, two parallel hooks) for slow-pitch jigs, plus fibres and cords for self-tiers. Sizes cover jigs from 30 g to 500 g+ and species from rockfish to giant amberjack.
